The Colorado Marathon -- May 6, 2012

I signed up for the Colorado Marathon. This will be my first marathon. I have created a blog to share my experiences training and learning at I Choose To Run. Check it out!

Kit Carson Peak and Challenger Point, September 4, 2011

I hiked in to the Upper South Colony Lake on September 3. It was like a KOA campground--tents everywhere. The route I chose, however, is not very popular, so I had much of the climb to myself until I neared Kit Carson. This was a challenging climb in terms of route finding and the clouds made it that much harder.

Mt. Lindsey, August 6, 2011

I arrived too late to the trailhead to hike in and camp so I slept in the Xterra. I forgot how uncomfortable it is. Also, all during the night, cars kept arriving at the trailhead and making noise. Good thing I was up by 3 am and on the trail by 4 am.

Tabeguache Peak--July 23, 2011

I headed out Saturday morning to climb. The weather was predicited to be exceptionally good, so I thought I would try an afternoon summit attempt. Normally, afternoon storms makes this a dangerous proposition. The weather held as predicted and the climb was fun.

Mt. Harvard with Traverse to Mt. Columbia--July 17, 2011

I headed out on Saturday afternoon and hiked up to a high camp at about 12,000 ft. At 4:30 am I headed up the slopes of Mt. Harvard with all of my gear. If I left the tent, etc., I would have had to hike back up them several miles after coming down Mt. Columbia. The traverse was long but fun.

Yellowstone National Park, Mt. Rushmore, and Crazy Horse--July 5-8, 2011

These pictures are of our family trip to these great American landmarks and monuments.

Missouri Mountain--July 1, 2011

Matt Walsh and I summited Missouri Mountain via the north face couloirs. We created our own indirect route mostly because of rockfall danger and then had a great glissade back down.

Mt. Yale--June 26, 2011

I finally was able to stand on the summit of Mt. Yale. Hiked in the night before to camp at 11,900 ft., woke up at 3 am and started hiking at 4 am. I reached the summit at 6 am. It was great day, just a bit windy.
